Psalm 6 - KJV and Scottish Metrical Psalter

 Psalm 6

1    O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2    Have mercy upon me, O LORD:  for I am weak:  O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

3    My soul is also sore vexed:  but thou, O LORD, how long?

4    Return, O LORD, deliver my soul:  oh save me for the mercies' sake.

5    For in death there is no remembrance of thee:  in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

6    I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.

7    Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.

8    Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.

9    The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.

10    Let all mine enemies be shamed and sore vexed:  let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

First Version (Long Metre)

1 Lord, in thy wrath rebuke me not;
Nor in thy hot rage chasten me.
2 Lord, pity me, for I am weak:
Heal me, for my bones vexed be.
3 My soul is also vexed sore;
But, Lord, how long stay wilt thou
make?
4 Return, O Lord, my soul set free;
O save me, for thy mercies' sake.
5 Because those that deceased are
Of thee shall no remembrance have;
And who is he that will to thee
Give praises lying in the grave?
6 I with my groaning weary am,
I also all the night my bed
Have caused for to swim; and I
With tears my couch have watered.
7 Mine eye, consum'd with grief, grows old,
Because of all mine enemies.
8 Hence from me, wicked workers all;
For God hath heard my weeping cries.
9 God hath my supplication heard,
My pray'r received graciously
10 Sham'd and sore vex'd be all my foes,
Sham'd and back turned suddenly.
