Pray for the Troops?

 This bit is excerpted from Laurence Vance's article:

Should We Ask God To Bless the Troops?

Vance, well said, as always...

 "...Pray that the troops don’t shed innocent blood. Pray that the troops don’t commit suicide. Pray for pastors to stop recommending military service to their young people. Pray for Christian families to stop supplying cannon fodder to the military. Pray that the troops come home. Pray that young people find employment instead of join the military. Pray for the end of military recruiters preying on young, impressionable students. Pray for an end to senseless foreign wars. Pray for an end to the U.S. empire of troops and bases that encircles the globe.
Oh, there are many things regarding the troops to pray for, but God blessing the troops should not be one of them."
....read the whole article HERE.
I personally think praying they won't commit suicide is asking God to bless them and their families!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(I have a son in the Air Force. Vance really challenged my thinking when I came across his writings about 5 years ago....I have his book, a collections of his essays: "Christianity and War and Other Essays Against the Warfare State" (find it here)....very good.
 I was so distressed about my son joining up. Knowing what I know about how our government works and how our boys are cannon fodder for the global elite.....I prayed he would not be responsible for the killing or wounding of innocent people, not be responsible for any atrocities. I would rather he died than have to live with the guilt of that....I'm his mother, no one cares more about him than I, but I'd rather he be dead than commit atrocities.....yes, that sounds shocking....18 service members commit suicide every day...something is terribly wrong....)
That is just wrong! Seriously wrong! These men are giving their lives for YOU! These foreign wars are not at all senseless. They are keeping the fighting from coming to our soil! Maybe you'd like terrorists invading your home and murdering your children? I do not write this to be disrespectful, but if you think we would be better off without our military than you need to think again! God commanded Israel to stand up and fight for their homes, their families, and their lands! He also promises to bless those who stand with Israel, His chosen people. It would be wrong for us to as Americans to sit back and watch them suffer! This is America, the best nation in the world. Like it or leave it!
If you don't publish this comment it is because you know it's true...
I am posting this anonymously because I'm not trying to cause trouble. I would gladly tell you this in person, but anything I say reflects on my family, and I think they would not appreciate it. :)
Well, all I can say is that posting anonymously IS rather cowardly. I would welcome discussion in person, but if you aren't willing to check out the sources listed below, don't waste my time... that would be disrespectful. =)
Some further comments I made on FB in case you didn't see them: Well, I personally think praying they won't commit suicide is asking God to bless them and their families! =) ....You have to read Vance's writings to understand where he is coming from. Mark Twain's War Prayer is also good. Suzi, God told the Israelites to do what they did. That's very different from our boys conquering, invading and destroying to overthrow governments and plunder nations for the benefit of a few powerful elite.....and like it or not, that's what been going on for 100 years now. Check out Major General Smedlely Butler's War is Racket or John Perkins' Confessions of an Economic Hitman..... We don't go and fight to protect oppressed people, we only get involved where it will benefit the power elite. We don't even protect our own borders (what have we done to help the Sudanese for instance?)....Read Col. Fletcher Prouty's book JFK. He tells how all the wars of the past 60 +/- years were planned out well in advance, who would go where and who would take what....like the board game Risk. They just stir up trouble or set up false flag operations in order to rally the people with the war cries and justification for them.....like using 9-11 to take us to Afghanistan and then Iraq....Remember the Iran-Conta mess? The CIA running drugs to pay for arms to topple governments? Isn't that it in a nutshell? There is so much, who can stomach learning about it all......you can see why I wasn't thrilled my son wanted to join up. And the funny thing is how much truth he has learned about his government while on the inside....
J. check out Iraqi Veterans Against the War www.ivaw.org . There are many testimonies from young men who are suffering for their part in our unjust wars....the senseless killing and maiming of hundreds of thousands of people , not to mention their homes and cities destroyed. For what? PTSD is real. Many never recover from the guilt. The guilt isn't a result of people who criticize the government or the troops who make our empire building possible. The guilt is from knowing they were wrong, they shouldn't have been there, the people they were responsible for killing shouldn't have died....there is a place for guilt rightly deserved. I pray God has mercy on them, and part of that mercy is repentance...and speaking out. You have to go looking for those voices. They don't get press, the media profits from the wars, why would they expose what our military does or tell the stories of those who are broken from their experiences? 18 soldiers a day commit suicide, almost ONE MILLION homeless are VETS. Like I said, there is something wrong. I pray God will bless all of us with understanding and that we will refuse to buy the propaganda and perpetuate this machine....That is Christian and it is Biblical and Godly - ..... A sign at an anti-war rally..... "Who would Jesus Bomb?"
B. did you actually read this article or any others of Vance's? I read his entire book and any believer should agree with his arguments (if not at first, then after much humble contemplation and it may take years! I didn't come to agree overnight. It took years of water drops falling on a rock so to speak for me to see the big picture.)....anti-war Christians were more common 100+ years ago. Look at the 6th and 8th commandments....what our government does and our boys enable is murder and theft pure and simple.....God does not approve of such. If an act is a sin for an individual to commit, then we cannot hire others to do it for us....when I first came across that idea, probably from Vance about 5 years ago, a light bulb went off.....remember, I'm not talking about the legitimate use of "protection for hire". I'm talking about hired guns and thugs plundering nations and peoples for the benefit and profit of the elite.....we've been so brainwashed by our nationalistic, war machine propaganda in the past 100 years that it's really quite Orwellian. There is a Proverb about that, when we call good evil and evil good....and Christians are probably the most to blame for the furtherance of it... Anyone can quibble about the wording of a sentence or two, but if you with an open mind, humbly examine Vance's writings you would come to understand.... I pray that ALL the Church will. Judgment comes first to the House of God. We are accountable for what we promote or condone, or keep silence about.....
A letter I wrote to a friend:
I'm sorry, I must have offended you today. I like you and consider you a friend.
I didn't come to where I am overnight (and I'm sure I have so much more to learn!).
I first started learning about "how the world really works" about 10 years ago when my first born said he wanted to join the military. I started researching about vaccines and how he could maybe get a medical waiver and avoid that danger. I learned then that our boys are just cannon fodder for the global elite (both sides are funded by the same guys at the top who profit from it). That was hard to wrap my mind around, and it took a few years! That began a trip down the "rabbit hole" that still hasn't ended!
I already thought outside the box with home schooling and natural health, so it wasn't too far fetched to find how we've been deceived about so much. It really all connects - follow the money as they say! Like I said, I've been connecting the dots for 10 years now. And many seeds were planted in my life for years before that.
The history we are taught, the propaganda we hear and read from the news outlets is all so skewed. There is so much wrong with our government, most people have no idea.
I just ask and hope that you will do some of your own research and not just dismiss what is hard to hear. It was hard for me when I first came upon it.
In Him,
Debbie McKee
cont....Quotes from Butler’s book:
"War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."
In another often cited quote from the book Butler says:
I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
The book is also interesting historically as Butler points out in 1935 that the US is engaging in military war games in the Pacific that are bound to provoke the Japanese.
"The Japanese, a proud people, of course will be pleased beyond expression to see the United States fleet so close to Nippon's shores. Even as pleased as would be the residents of California were they to dimly discern through the morning mist, the Japanese fleet playing at war games off Los Angeles."
Butler explains that the excuse for the buildup of the US fleet and the war games is fear that "the great fleet of this supposed enemy will strike suddenly and annihilate 125,000,000 people."
And history continues to repeat itself…..
There are many arguments on both sides, and sounds to me like you are just upset about your son, so you are doing everything you can to defame our national defense.
I don't know why you call me Suzi, J, B, or anything else, as I certainly am not any of the above. Discussion in person would be nice, but I may never see you again...who knows.
Who would Jesus bomb? Good question, for which my father once gave a very good answer - "The Amalekites!" God told Isreal to utterly destroy them! It would be a sin to sit back and not defend our homes and families!
God also said Thou shalt not speak evil against the ruler of thy people...
Here are some thoughts to consider and some more comments and sources in the comment below this one:
Jesus spoke the truth which some would say was evil about the religious leaders of His day. so did John Baptist and all the OT prophets.
We as Christians of all people must speak when we see corruption, theft, murder, oppression, tyranny, etc. Especially committed by public servants, our employees.
We the people ARE the government - we set up our form of government and we can alter ore abolish if/when necessary - we have a duty to criticize it, silence is consent.
Jesus said he didn't come to rule over an earthly kingdom so, no He wouldn't bomb anyone, and although he told his disciples to buy swords for self protection, he didn't try to destroy his enemies. Or the people the religious or government leaders SAID were the enemies, like the Samaritans for example....
When the Bible speaks of Israel in the latter days it speaks of the Church which is made up of Jews and Gentiles, It is NOT speaking of a political nation state that was formed by the British and other nations out of territory that was rightfully possessed and inhabited by others....
I've been learning about this for 10+ years. I laid out a few sources to back up my allegations. I didn't have those handed to me when I first entered the rabbit hole.....I didn't like what I came across, I didn't accept what was happening overnight...I've stated that many times....Our founding fathers didn't want a standing army, they for the most part warned us of entangling alliances. Check out the sources, realize that what we've been taught in school and what the mainstream media (whose owners benefit from the wars) has repeated over and over is just plan wrong. Listen to the whistle blowers who have tried to warn us. Step back and look at the whole of the history of our empire, check out false flags, CIA, blowback, Iran in 1953. Like you mentioned, even Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex.
I list some additional sources here: http://dlmckee.blogspot.com/2012/09/open-letter-to-those-who-are-offended.html I'm not a pacifist, there is a place for protecting life and property. Jesus told his disciples to buy swords, for instance. (Yes, there is a difference between killing in self defense and murder.) However, there is a difference in calling up the militia because we have an enemy at the gate and a standing army which conquers and invades nation after nation to allow some companies and people to enjoy their resources. I have an excerpt at that link above from Butler...he sums it up. And that was before WW2! We'd barely gotten started! Vance's book lists all the places we've been involved and continue to be...I loaned it out, so I can't lay my hands on it.
Would we like it if foreign troops were here to liberate us or keep the peace? Would we like it if they built bases on our soil and took our resources? Would we be "terrorists" or "insurgents" and fight the invaders? If we were blockaded or had economic sanctions placed on us, would we consider that an act of war? If a foreign military provoked us over and over would we strike back? What if a foreign military stirred up trouble makers and funded them, gave them arms and then when they protested against their government the foreign military came in to help them and topple our government? These are all things our government and our military has done. And that's just the tip of the iceberg......
As the daughter of a veteran and granddaughter of 2 veterans I find your comments very distasteful and wrong. You are twisting the truth. Some of the things you say are true, but you are not looking at the whole picture. THE FOUNDING FATHERS WERE NOT GOD, and the constitution is not the inerrant! Without our troops we would have hideous events like 9-11 happening on our soil all the time.
I am not on FB, and I don't care to read any more of these sickening and disrespectful comments from the people you quote. Maybe you should read "Sgt. York and the Great War", Maybe you would learn that you go to war to SAVE lives!! The lives of the innocent, whether or not they're Americans!
Well, I am sorry to have offended you, but you must not have read what I wrote about my learning experience.
I was thoroughly disgusted to learn what I learned and I didn't understand or accept what I learned very quickly. We are talking years of learning and slowly seeing. I know that only God opens eyes and I often wish I didn't know what I know. It is a heavy burden and with knowledge comes responsibility and duty and so I must speak.
May I always be humble enough to keep learning and to know that it's only by His Grace that I come to understand anything.
